Centerville, Maryland

It was a beautiful April Saturday in Maryland, so a perfect day for heading over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge for a little bar hopping in Centerville, Maryland. It’s only 31 miles from Annapolis to Centerville, a picturesque and easy 35 minute drive, provided you don’t get caught in one of those notorious Bay Bridge back-ups . Our first stop is always Ten Eyck brewery, on Maryland Route 213, just a 3-iron north of U.S. Route 50. Ten Eyck appears nothing special from the outside, but the inside is quite distinctive with large rough hewn oak tables and bar, and plenty of shady outdoor space with laid back Adirondack loungers. The brewery has lots of great brews and the friendly staff always makes a stop here a relaxing affair. Bartender, Ian, will be happy to fix you up with whatever suits your palette. If you can’t make up your mind, go with a flight and pick out your favorite for later.

After wetting your whistle at Ten Eyck we continued north on 213 another ten minutes to O’Shucks Irish Pub in bustling downtown Centerville. O’Shucks has great food and rockstar bartender, Marina, is there to keep your glass full and tummy happy. Marina doesn’t just tend bar, she reigns over it. O’Shucks is always our place to fuel up on food before heading to the final stop of the Centerville bar tour, the Bull & Goat Brewery.

No need to drive to the Bull & Goat, it’s a five minute walk from O’Shucks. The Bull & Goat also is home to Old Courthouse Distilling. Yep, a brewery and distillery under the same roof! You really can’t beat that. Owners Bull and Goat alternate bartending duties along with Roland. Today it was the ever attentive Roland at the helm. This locals hangout is a great way to end the day. Shuffleboard, board games, darts, and other diversions are there to help wile away the hours sipping on a fine array of beers or we’ll crafted old fashions and margaritas. Once you visit here you won’t be able to wait to clue your friends in on this hidden gem.

After the B & G it’s time to bid adieu to the Eastern Shore and head back across the bridge to Annapolis. If you find yourself on the “other side of the bridge”, treat yourself to a little tour of our favorite Centerville watering holes…you won’t be disappointed.
