Long Island

Our latest roadtrip took us back to the Empire State…New York. This time our destination was Long Island to attend a wedding and to spend some time with friends, Jason and Kelly, bar hopping. The wedding was a beautiful affair held at the Long Island Aquarium in Riverhead. The outdoor ceremony on the pier was lovely and the follow-on cocktail hour, and then dinner with dancing was terrific. We wish the happy couple all the best and many thanks for including us on their special day.

The rest of the weekend we cruised around Long Island stopping here and there for adult refreshments. Our first stop was Misfits Tavern in Ridge. Misfits is a great little dive with friendly locals, like Richard, and the energetic MJ behind the bar. MJ was the highlight of our visit. She kept the patrons entertained and their glasses full. We had a great time there as we kicked off our Long Island pub crawl.

We also thoroughly enjoyed the Montauk Distilling Company in Riverhead. The comfy seating in the courtyard, along with the open air bar were very inviting on a warm summer night. If you find yourself in Riverhead please check out this place…it’s a nice pairing with the aquarium :-)

Last but not least was a stop at the Tara Inn in Port Jefferson. The Tara Inn is renowned for its low priced food. The menu is written on a large chalkboard and specials are on paper plates stuck to the wall. Check out the unbelievable prices in the picture below. It’s a cash only place to help keep the low prices, but don’t think for a minute that the food is sub par. We had a cheese burger and fish sandwich both served with fries and accompanied by a draft beer and, of course, a pint Long Island Ice Tea for which we paid a mere $20.50. The burger, fish, and fries were very good, while the steaks our friends got were excellent. You absolutely cannot miss this place if you’re anywhere near Port Jefferson.
