Wishing everyone a Happy New Year and all the best for 2024! Today we have for you a flashback to last October when we visited Pennsylvania’s Amish Country with our good friends Nigel and Yvonne. You’ll recall we visited them in Spain in August and they returned the favor by visiting us in Maryland in October. One of the many adventures during their week with us was an overnight stay in Pennsylvania. We highly recommend a visit there for both young and old. The horse drawn buggies; animal petting farms; delicious home made foods and treats; and the Strasbourg Railroad and train museums will surely appeal to the whole family.
While in the area you must check out the great bar inside the Fulton Steamboat Inn. We had visited the bar a few months earlier and received great service from bartender, Matt. This time around, Matt was again minding bar and he greeted us like old friends, remembering us and everything about our prior visit. Besides Matt making us delicious cocktails and keeping things upbeat, we were pleasantly surprised by their Maryland Crab Soup. Yolie even commented that it was the best Maryland Crab Soup she has ever had…and in Pennsylvania no less.
After a long day of exploring and sightseeing we spent the night in an old railroad car at the Red Caboose Motel. The car was an old caboose complete with bunk beds, shower, television, and more charm than you can imagine. What an experience, we had a blast! Besides being able to sleep in a train car, the Red Caboose Motel also has an excellent dining car, an awesome souvenir shop, a petting zoo, buggy rides, and the neatest conductors…I mean front desk clerks…that you’ll ever meet! All in all, we had a terrific time in Pennsylvania and we’re sure that you would, too! Here’s to 2024, and happy travels!
